Feriado de Santo Olavo / St. Olaf Holiday

A tarde de hoje e o dia de amanhã, são feriados nacionais nas Ilhas Faroé.

A festividade, também conhecida como Ólavsøka tem o seu ponto alto no dia 29, com a realização sessão de abertura do parlamento das Ilhas Faroé.


A palavra Ólavsøka numa tradução mais literal, significa vigília ao Santo Olavo (995-1030), Rei da Noruega, morto na batalha de Stiklestad.


Durante o dia 29, milhares de pessoas são atraídas até à capital Tórshavn, para participar e acompanhar várias actividades culturais e desportivas.


A saudação típica para o dia da Ólavsøka na lingua Faroesa é Góða Ólavsøku! (Good St. Olaf's Wake!).

The afternoon of today and tomorrow are public holidays in the Faroe Islands.

The festival, also known as Ólavsøka has its high point on 29, with the completion of the opening session of parliament of the Faroe Islands.

The word Ólavsøka in a more literal translation, means waking the Saint Olaf (995-1030), King of Norway, died in the battle of Stiklestad.

During the 29th, thousands of people are attracted to the capital Tórshavn to participate and support various cultural activities and sports.

The salute for Ólavsøka in Faroese is Góða Ólavsøku! (Good St. Olaf's Wake!).
